Fish Fritters Stir Fry in Tomato Sauce | Indo Chinese Style Fish Stir Fry

Great way to turn fish into a fancy dish…

This is more of an Indo Chinese dish, fish is made into fritters and then it’s stir fried in a sauce. Since I used tilapia which is a very mild tasting fish, I didn’t feel like I was eating fish. Tasted so delicious and this is quite a great way to serve fish.

Ingredients
  • Fish fillet- 4 fillets cut into cubes (tilapia or any mild tasting fish)
For making batter
  • Ginger-garlic paste- 1 tbsp
  • Ground pepper- ½ tsp
  • Chili powder- 1 tsp
  • All purpose flour- ¼ cup
  • Corn starch- ¼ cup + 3 tbsp
  • Beaten egg- 1
  • Cilantro, minced- 3 tbsp
  • Green chilies, minced- 1 tbsp (optional)
  • Lemon juice- ½ tbsp
  • Salt- ¾ tsp
While cooking
  • Oil- 2 tbsp, used for frying fish
  • Ginger, minced- ½ tbsp
  • Garlic, minced- ½ tbsp
  • Red dry chili flakes-1 tsp
  • Green onions, chopped- 1 stalk
  • Green pepper, cut into thin wedges- 1, small
  • Red pepper, cut into thin wedges- 1, small
  • Tomato paste- 4 tbsp
  • Tomato ketchup- 1½ tbsp
  • Soy sauce- 1½ tbsp
  • Ground pepper- ¼ tsp
  • Cilantro, chopped- to granish
Other ingredients
  • Oil- enough to deep fry fish
Instructions
  1. Cut the fish fillet into cubes. Tilapia or any mild tasting fish can be used.
  2. In a bowl, combine all the above mentioned ingredients "for marinating fish".
  3. Coat the fish well with the batter.
  4. Place a frying pan over medium heat & add enough oil for deep frying.
  5. Drop the fish one by one into the oil without crowding.
  6. Fry till both sides turn golden in color and crispy.
  7. Transfer the fish fritters to a paper towel, keep aside.
  8. Place a wok over medium heat, add 2 tbsp oil used for frying fish.
  9. Add minced ginger and garlic, saute till golden.
  10. Add red chili flakes, saute for a second.
  11. Add green onions, saute for a couple of minutes.
  12. Add green pepper and red pepper, stir fry till the peppers are slightly cooked.
  13. Add tomato paste, ketchup and soy sauce, combine well and cook for a few minutes.
  14. Add the fish fritters into the sauce, gently combine into the sauce.
  15. Sprinkle ground pepper, combine well.
  16. Cook for a few minutes.
  17. Finally, add cilantro, cook for a minute and remove the wok from the heat.
  18. Serve on a plate and enjoy with steamed rice.
Notes
Use any mild tasting fish.
Add more chili powder or ground pepper for more spice.
Fish can be replaced with shrimp as well.
