Tomatoes cooked in coconut and yogurt gravy…
When tomatoes are freshly picked from my veggie garden, any dish will taste delicious. This is an easy to make gravy made with tomatoes, coconut and yogurt; a Kerala style dish served with rice.

Ingredients
For grinding
- Coconut, grated- 1 cup
- Small onions- 3
- Green Chili, chopped- 1
- Curry leaves- 1 sprig
- Cumin seeds- ¾ tsp
- Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp
- Water- ¾ cup
For cooking
- Coconut Oil- 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds- ½ tsp
- Dried red chilies- 2, halved
- Curry leaves- 1 sprig
- Tomatoes, chopped- 2
- Water- ½ cup
- Salt- ¾ tsp
- Chili powder- ½ tsp
- Yogurt, beaten- ½ cup
Instructions
- In a blender, grind all the above mentioned ingredients 'for grinding' till smooth. Keep aside.
- Place a pan over medium heat, add coconut oil.
- Add mustard seeds, let it splutter.
- Add dried red chilies and curry leaves, saute for a few seconds.
- Add tomatoes, saute for 2 minutes.
- Add the ground coconut paste, combine well.
- Add ½ cup water and let cook for 5 minutes.
- Add chili powder, combine well.
- Add salt, combine well.
- Lower the heat and add beaten yogurt. Combine well and cook for a minute.
- Remove the pan from the heat and keep covered.
- This is a side dish served along with rice- pour over the rice and enjoy.
