An easy to make vegetarian curry…
For Kerala lunch, usually a simple curry will be served along with fish curry & vegetarian side dishes. That simple curry is prepared with either ground coconut or yogurt.
This is a yogurt curry with cooked bottle gourd added to it. It’s a simple & comforting vegetarian dish, enjoy with rice.

Ingredients
- Bottle gourd, diced- 2 cups
- Coconut oil- 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
- Fenugreek seeds- ½ tsp
- Dried red chilies- 2
- Curry leaves- 8 leaves
- Salt- 1½ tsp
- Yogurt- 1½ cups
Instructions
- I've taken bottle gourd or churakka in Malayalam for making this.
- Cucumber or ash gourd (Kumalanga) can also be used.
- Place a pan over medium heat, add coconut oil, let turn hot.
- Add mustard seeds, let splutter.
- Add fenugreek seeds, dried red chilies & curry leaves, saute for a minute.
- Add the diced bottle gourd & salt, combine well.
- Add ½ cup water & cook covered till bottle gourd turns soft.
- If you want ¼ tsp turmeric powder can also be added, I didn't add.
- Take the pan off the heat, let cool down slightly.
- Take the yogurt in a bowl & combine well using a fork.
- Add the yogurt to the cooked bottle gourd, combine well.
- Enjoy this simple curry with rice.
