A sweet treat that’s as indulgent as it is beautiful…
Early this year in Dubai, the strawberry chocolate pistachio cups went viral: and it’s easy to see why. We all know strawberries and chocolate are a match made in heaven, but in Dubai’s culinary scene, pastry chefs took it a step further by adding crispy Kataifi and pistachio butter for an irresistible crunch.
I absolutely enjoyed Dubai’s Viral Kunafa pistachio chocolate bar, have made that quite a few times & indulged in it. Hence, when I heard about these cups I had no doubt this would taste incredible with the crunchy Kataifi pistachios.

Kataifi and Kunafa are not the same
Kataifi refers to the thin, shredded phyllo pastry dough used in Middle Eastern desserts, including kunafa. Kunafa is the name of a specific dessert made with this kataifi dough, typically layered with a sweet cheese filling. So, kataifi is an ingredient, and kunafa is a dish.
The addition of Kataifi pistachio adds a distinctly regional touch. Kataifi is a popular Middle Eastern pastry dough used for making many desserts including Kunafa, brings a delightful crunch that perfectly complements the creamy chocolate and sweet strawberries.
Each cup is a miniature work of art that not only looks gorgeous but tastes absolutely divine.
- Kataifi dough, shredded- 2 cups

- Shred the kataifi using your hands & add to the butter.
- Roast till it turns golden & crispy, keep stirring otherwise kataifi will turn brown very fast.

- For making pistachio butter: I added 20 shelled pistachios to a spice jar along with 3 to 4 tbsp melted butter & grind to a paste.
- Or you can store bought pistachio butter.
- Have melted chocolate ready, you can use milk or dark or a combination of milk & dark chocolate.
- To a bowl, add the roasted kataifi & pour the pistachio butter & combine well.
- Use fresh ripe strawberries for making this, frozen strawberries wouldn't taste that good.
- Use a transparent dessert glass.
- Add slice strawberries as the first layer.
- Top with the kataifi pistachi butter.
- Drizzle melted chocolate over it.
- Repeat these layers.
- Topmost layer should be melted chocolate.
