How to make Gluten Free Flour

Dedicated to all Gluten intolerant people out there…

I had never thought that I would ever shop for gluten free products. Apparently now I have to spend sometime at the gluten free aisle as well. It’s not for me, it’s for my husband. It’s been only a year since we came to know that my husband is gluten intolerant. Since then I’ve been searching and researching about “what the heck is gluten intolerance”, or more precisely about the ways to overcome it. Wish there were some ways to permanently resolve it, but the bitter truth is that there is no cure for it. If you are gluten intolerant or if you have celiac disease you have no other option but follow a gluten free diet. For some people the symptoms are minor but for others it’s a threaten to their life. For my husband, it’s not that worse but when he is completely gluten free he feels totally better. Hence he has been on a strict gluten free diet lately.

In the beginning it was so difficult for us to shop for gluten free products as we were quite ignorant about the stores which carry them. However, it didn’t take too long for us to explore a few shops which sell gluten free products. Whole foods market has an aisle dedicated to gluten free products. In my city, Bulk barn and bulk barrel have all kinds of flours and a wide variety of gluten free products. Today, we found a pastry shop in our city which sells only gluten free food and products. We were amazed to see almost all kinds of pastries and desserts that my husband had been missing all these days. We had a gluten free shopping spree today. I am glad to have finally got hold of gluten free soy sauce.

Well, it seems that I am turning into gluten free too along with my husband. These days, I use gluten free flour to most of the recipes that call for all purpose flour. The flour is available at some stores as premixed form or you could buy different flours separately and mix them. During my last visit to Bulk barrel, the kind staff at the store gave me the recipe for making gluten free flour.

If you are wondering how you could mix gluten free flour, here I am sharing the recipe with you guys too. Follow the recipe and store it in an air tight container, it will last for a few months. I have used this flour to make cakes, cookies, crepes and pancakes, it worked really well. Here are the recipes for cakes that I made using this gluten free flour.
