Salmon cooked in an amazing onion-tomato sauce…
This is a delicious & flavorful fish curry. I’ve used salmon fish, shallow fried the salmon & then cooked in an aromatic onion-tomato sauce. Can be served with rice, roti, chapati, etc.

Ingredients
For marinating fish
- Salmon- 7 to 8 pieces (or use kingfish, pomfret, tuna)
- Chili powder- 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp
- Ginger-garlic paste- 1 tbsp
- Lemon juice- 2 tbsp
- Salt- 1½ tsp
For Shallow frying fish
- Oil- ¼ to ½ cup
To grind to a paste
- Onion, chopped- 2
- Garlic- 3 cloves
- Ginger- 2 inch slice
- Tomatoes, chopped- 2
For making spice mix
- Kashmiri chili powder- 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp
- Coriander powder- 1 tsp
- Cumin powder- ¾ tsp
- Garam masala- 1 tsp
- Ground black pepper- ½ tsp
For cooking sauce
- Oil used for frying fish- 2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
- Green chili- 1 or 2
- Water- 1½ cups
- Salt- 1 tsp
- Cilantro, chopped- ¼ cup
Instructions
- I've used salmon fish, other fish like kingfish, tuna, pomfret can be added.
- In a bowl, add the above-mentioned ingredients 'for marinating the fish', spread well & let marinate for 15 to 30 minutes.
- Into a blender jar, add onions, tomatoes, ginger & garlic. Grind to a smooth paste.
- Place a pan over medium heat.
- Add oil for shallow frying fish.
- Place the marinated fish, shallow fry the fish till both sides have turned golden in color.
- Transfer to a plate & keep aside.
- Strain the oil used for frying oil to remove the brown particles.
- Place a wide pan over medium heat.
- Add the oil used for frying fish.
- Add cumin seeds & green chili, saute till cumin seeds turn light brown.
- Pour the ground onion-tomato mixture.
- Rinse blender jar with ½ cup water, add that to the pan.
- Combine well, cook covered for 10 to 15 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine all the spices 'for making the spice mix', add 2 tbsp water to make into a smooth paste.
- Open the lid, add the spice mix to the sauce. Combine well.
- Cook for 5 minutes.
- Cook till the gravy thickens & the raw smell of onion goes away.
- Add 1 cup warm water. Combine well, let the gravy come to a slight boil.
- Add the shallow fried fish.
- Cook covered for 2 minutes.
- Finally, garnish with chopped cilantro.
- Remove the pan from the heat, keep covered.
- Serve into a bowl; enjoy with rice, chapati, rice, etc.
