Aromatic, flavourful & delicious shrimp Asian style noodle stir fry…
This is one of my favorite Asian dishes, and I make it quite often. As a shrimp fanatic, I love adding shrimp to most of my stir fries. This dish is a delightful and perfect one-pot meal that combines tender shrimp with flavorful rice noodles and a variety of fresh vegetables.
To enhance the aroma and taste, I always include a few key ingredients like pure sesame oil, fresh basil leaves, ginger, and garlic. For the best results, I use a large wok and stir fry everything over high heat.
This recipe is versatile and can also be made with chicken, your choice of veggies, and different types of noodles.

- Shrimp, deveined & shelled- 15 to 20
- Soy sauce, low-sodium- 2 tbsp
- Hoisin sauce- 2 tbsp
- Sambal Oelek or chili paste- 1 tsp
- Sesame oil- 1 tbsp
- Garlic, chopped- 1 tbsp
- Ginger, chopped- ½ tbsp
- Fresh basil leaves- 10 leaves
- Mixed veggies- 1½ cups (carrot, corn, beans, peas)
- Red pepper, diced- 1
- Yellow pepper, diced- 1 (or use green pepper)
- Rice noodles, cooked
- Soy sauce, low-sodium- 2 tbsp
- Hoisin sauce- 2 tbsp
- Dark soy sauce- ½ tbsp (optional)
- Sesame oil- 2 tsp
- Green onions, chopped- 2 tbsp
- Cilantro, chopped- 2 tbsp
- Take shrimp in a bowl, add soy sauce, hoisin sauce & sambal oelek, combine well.
- I've added thin rice noodles, you can also add wheat or chow mein noodles.
- Cook the thin rice noodles in hot water till they turn slightly soft, don't over cook the noodles.
- Strain the water & add 1 tsp sesame oil to the noodles to prevent them from sticking & keep it aside.
- Place a large wok over medium heat, add sesame oil.
- Add ginger, garlic, stir fry for 2 minutes.
- Add fresh basil leaves, stir fry for 2 minutes.
- Add mixed veggies, any of your favourite veggies can be added- cabbage, green pepper, etc.
- Stir fry for a few minutes.
- Add the marinated shrimp, stir fry till shrimp has almost cooked.
- I've also added red & yellow pepper, stir fry for a few minutes.
- Add the cooked noodles, stir fry over high heat for a few minutes.
- Add the sauces: soy sauce, hoisin sauce & dark soy sauce if adding.
- Stir fry over high heat for a couple of minutes.
- Finally, I like to add 2 tsp sesame oil, this will enhance the aroma & flavour of the noodle stir fry.
- Stir fry for a minute.
- Garnish with chopped green onions & cilantro.
- Take the wok off the heat.
- Serve on a plate & enjoy while it's hot.
