Hack Your Tesla Model Y With Tesloid Induction Wheel Covers

If you own a Tesla Model Y Long Range, you might have wondered how to make it look more like the Performance model without spending a fortune. Well, there is a simple and affordable way to do that: induction wheel covers.

Induction wheel covers are specially designed to fit on the 19″ Gemini wheels of the Model Y and replace the original wheel covers. They have a sleek and stylish matte black finish that matches the all-around matte trim of the car. They also offer extra rim protection due to their larger radius.

In this blog post, I will share the entire process of how I installed induction wheel covers on my Model Y and how they transformed the appearance and performance of my car. I will also share some details and specifications of the product, as well as some tips and tricks for installation and maintenance.

What are induction wheel covers and where to get them?

Induction wheel covers are aftermarket accessories that are made to enhance the look and feel of your Model Y wheels. They are not official Tesla products, but they are compatible with the Tesla Model Y Long Range 2020-2023 models that have 19″ Gemini wheels. There are several online stores that sell induction wheel covers, but I got mine from Tesloid Canada, which is a reputable and reliable seller of Tesla accessories. They offer free shipping within Canada and the US, and they have excellent customer service and reviews.

The package that I got included four induction wheel covers and a storage bag to store away my original Gemini wheel covers. The price for this post is $289.99 CAD, which I think is very reasonable for the quality and value of the product.

The induction wheel covers are made of durable ABS material and have a matte black finish. They weigh 5.5 kg in total, which is slightly heavier than the original wheel covers, but not enough to affect the performance or efficiency of the car.

The induction wheel covers are also directional, which means that they have a specific orientation for each wheel, two lefts or two rights. This is important to keep in mind when installing them, as I will explain later.

How to install induction wheel covers on your Model Y?

Before installing the induction wheel covers, you will need to apply the foam tape (included in the package) on the back of each cover. The foam tape should be placed along the edge of the cover, where it will contact the rim of the wheel. Installing induction wheel covers on your Model Y is very easy and straightforward. You don’t need any tools or special skills, just some patience and care.

Here are the steps that I followed:

  1. Park your car on a flat and clean surface.
  2. Use the foam tape to wrap the backside edge of each cover.
  3. Remove the original wheel covers by pulling them gently from the edges. You might need to use some force, but be careful not to damage them or scratch the wheels.
  4. Clean the wheels with some soapy water and a soft cloth to remove any dirt or dust.
  5. Identify which induction wheel cover corresponds to each wheel by looking at the direction of the spokes. The spokes should point forward when the car is moving forward. There should also be a sticker on each cover indicating the position (Left, Right).
  6. Align the induction wheel cover with the wheel and press it firmly until it snaps into place. You should hear a click sound when it is properly secured.
  7. Repeat steps 2 to 5 for the remaining wheels.
  8. Check that all the induction wheel covers are correctly installed and aligned. If not, you can remove them by inserting a flat tool (such as a credit card or a spatula) between the cover and the wheel and prying it gently.
  9. Store your original wheel covers in the storage bag provided and keep them in a safe place.

How do induction wheel covers improve your Model Y?

After installing induction wheel covers on my Model Y, I was amazed by how much they changed the look and feel of my car. They gave it a more aggressive and sporty appearance, similar to the Performance model. They also matched perfectly with the matte black trim of my car, creating a sleek and elegant contrast with the blue paint. These induction wheel covers are said to enhance the car’s performance and aerodynamics. They lower the wind drag and resistance on the wheels, which boosts the Model Y’s efficiency and range. However, I don’t have the right conditions to verify this, but those who did reported gains up to 5%. I am impressed by how they enhanced my car’s aesthetics.

Curb rash

One of the benefits of using Tesloid’s induction wheel covers is that they can help you conceal any curb rash or damage on your wheels. Curb rash is the term used to describe the scratches or scuffs that occur when your wheels hit the curb or other obstacles. It can affect the appearance and value of your car. Tesloid’s induction wheel covers are designed to fit perfectly on your original wheels and replace the OEM wheel covers. They have a greater radius than the OEM wheel covers, which means they cover more of the rim and protect it from further damage.

Air valve access

The air valve is not very easy to access with the induction wheel covers. This is a minor drawback. However, you can still use a regular air pump or a tire pressure gauge to check and inflate your tires. You just need to align the valve stem with the opening on the wheel cover and insert the nozzle carefully. You can also remove the wheel cover temporarily if you need to access the valve more easily. The wheel cover is attached with a snap-on mechanism that makes it easy to install and remove

Induction wheel covers are one of the best accessories that you can get for your Model Y if you want to make it look more like the Performance model without breaking the bank. They are easy to install, durable, stylish, and functional.

I highly recommend induction wheel covers to anyone who owns a Model Y Long Range with 19″ Gemini wheels. They are worth every penny and will make you fall in love with your car all over again.
