The batter has to be fermented overnight & then it’s cooked in a special pan exclusively for making appam. It’s so light with crispy & laced edges, goes well with any kind of curries & is enjoyed for breakfast or dinner.

How about we make appam with wheat flour instead of rice? This is an instant recipe & doesn’t require overnight fermentation. Yeast is added to the batter that will help the batter to ferment in an hour. Fluffy & soft batter will be ready in just an hour. The batter when poured onto the appam pan & swirled, holes started to appear right away. The wheat appam will have a crispy & laced edges & a beautiful soft texture.

This can be enjoyed with chicken, mutton, beef or vegetable curries. For kids, pour coconut milk & sprinkle some sugar on it. Absolutely delightful delicious & melt in your mouth wheat appams.

Making wheat appam in an appam pan

Rice Appam Recipe, Click Here

Instant Wheat Appam With Fermented Batter- Kerala Recipe

Recipe Type: Main

Cuisine: Indian

Author: Thasneen

Prep time: 1 hour 10 mins

Cook time: 30 mins

Total time: 1 hour 40 mins

Serves: 12

Ingredients

Wheat flour- 1 cup

Cooked rice- 1/2 cup (or add soaked flattened rice)

Grated coconut- 1/4 cup

Sugar- 1 tbsp

Instant dry yeast- 1 tsp

Salt- 1/2 tsp

Oil- 1/2 tbsp

Lukewarm water- 2 cups

Instructions

For making the batter, you can add either cooked white rice or Kerala matta rice.

If you don’t have cooked rice &
