There are many kinds of fish curries, this is one of the ways made in my family. Fish cooked with roasted &amp; ground coconut. After 5 minutes, squeeze the tamarind in water to release the juice, strain the juice &amp; discard the skin.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Let&#8217;s first roast the coconut.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Place a pan over medium heat, add 1 tbsp oil.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add grated coconut, shallots &amp; curry leaves.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Roast for a few minutes till the coconut turns golden brown.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Keep stirring while roasting, otherwise, the coconut will brown fast.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">After the coconut has turned golden brown, add chili powder, Kashmiri chili powder, turmeric powder &amp; coriander powder.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Saute for a minute.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Remove the pan from the heat &amp; let cool down.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Transfer the roasted coconut to a blender jar, add 1 cup water &amp; grind to a smooth paste.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Keep aside the ground coconut.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Place a claypot over medium heat.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add 2 tbsp coconut oil.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Let oil turn hot.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add mustard seeds, let them splutter.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add dried red chilies &amp; curry leaves.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add the roasted ground coconut paste.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Rinse the blender jar with 1 cup water, add that to the claypot.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add halved green chilies.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add eggplant if adding, you can also add 2-inch cut drumsticks-moringa.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add the fish pieces.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add the tamarind extract, combine well.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add salt.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Gently, combine the gravy.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Cover the claypot with a lid.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Cook for 15 minutes, let the gravy come to a boil.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">After 15 minutes, lower the heat &amp; let simmer for 5 minutes.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Let the gravy thicken slightly.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Turn off the heat, keep the fish curry covered for 15 minutes.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Serve with rice, chapati, idiyappam, pathiri, orotti, appam, puttu, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ERNutrition\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"endeasyrecipe\" style=\"display: none;\">3.5.3251<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kerala style sardines fish curry with roasted coconut gravy cooked in the clay pot&#8230; Fish curry &amp; seafood dishes are popular in Kerala and are enjoyed on a daily basis for lunch &amp; dinner.
