Those days I was in search of gluten free ingredients and tried so many kinds of flours and seeds which I wouldn’t have tried otherwise. Now, I feel we were disguised so that I could try all those gluten free products as well. Shopping through the gluten free aisle was quite different, I was introduced to so many exotic and completely new ingredients that I haven’t heard or tried before like quinoa, buckwheat flour and many kinds of soy products. One such product that I bumped into was flax seeds. I had no idea what it was and was quite curious about it. Of course, Googling helped…

Apparently, flax seeds are not new, people have known about it for centuries and flax are one of the oldest fiber crops in the world.

Flax seeds are considered to be a superfood due to its high content of omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. The oil inside the flax seeds is the most important and it’s called linseed oil. There are so many ways of including flax seeds into your diet:

Sprinkle flax seeds to your salad, add to smoothies, oatmeal, cookies, pancakes, muffin.

Ground flaxseeds can be used along with flour in baking and making pancakes.

The most important use of flax seeds is that it can be used as an egg replacer.

After knowing about the amazing benefits of flax seeds, I did buy a pack of brown flax seeds. I’ve tried adding it to my smoothies, salads, oatmeal, pancakes, cookies etc. One of my favourite snack bars have flax seeds in it. Here is the recipe for Sesame-flax seeds bars.

However, I was more keen about replacing eggs with flax seeds in my baking.

Flax seeds are powdered and are combined with water, allowed to stand for 15 minutes to thicken. Voila, amazing egg replacer is ready.

It’s recommended to use fresh flax seeds every time you make this. You could store the flax seeds in the refrigerator, it will last for a year or so.

<a href="http://www.thasneen.com/cooking/category/recipes/by-ingredient/flax-seeds/"
