I start my day mostly with oats: oats mixed with milk,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thasneen.com\/cooking\/oatmeal-pancake-maple-strawberry-syrup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> oats pancake<\/a>, oats porridge, sometimes I make <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thasneen.com\/cooking\/eggless-oatmeal-cookie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cookies<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thasneen.com\/cooking\/homemade-easy-granola-bar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">granola bars with oats<\/a>. It&#8217;s such a versatile ingredient that can be added as whole or ground.<\/p>\n<p>One of the breakfast dishes in South India is Upma, mostly made with semolina or cracked wheat. Recently, I found that oats can be transformed into savory upma. Add oil let it turn hot.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add mustard seeds, let it splutter.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add cumin seeds, saute for a few seconds.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add bay leaf, minced ginger, garlic and green chilies, saute till golden in color.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add cashew nuts, saute for a few seconds.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add turmeric powder, combine well.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add chopped onions and 1\/2 tsp salt. Saute till onions turn translucent.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add mixed veggies, stir fry for a couple of minutes till veggies turn tender.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Slide the veggies to the side of the pan.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add the beaten egg on the other side of the pan and scramble the eggs well.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add chili powder, coriander powder, ground cumin &amp; 1\/2 tsp salt combine well.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add instant oats, stir fry for a minute.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Slowly add water and keep stirring.
