While preparing this dish, onions are added in two stages, hence the name dopiaza.<\/p>\n<p>There are so many different versions of dopiaza, I tried this version and it was absolutely onion)<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">Ginger-garlic paste- 1\/2 tbsp<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">Green chilies- 2, chopped<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">Turmeric powder- 1\/4 tsp<\/li>\n<li taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ERInstructions\">\n<div class=\"ERInstructionsHeader\">Instructions<\/div>\n<div class=\"instructions\">\n<ol>\n<li class=\"instruction\">In a blender, grind red pepper and tomato to a smooth paste, keep aside.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Season the diced chicken with salt and ground pepper, cook covered in a saucepan till it is cooked well. Keep aside.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Roast the paneer cubes in 1 tbsp oil till it turns golden in color. Keep aside.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Place a wok or large pan over medium heat, add oil.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add cumin seeds, saute for a second.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add chopped onions, and a few pinches of salt, saute till translucent.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, saute till onions turn light golden in color.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder to the onions, saute for a minute.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add a few tablespoons of water as the mixture gets dry, combine well.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add the ground red pepper\/tomato paste, combine well and cook for a few minutes till the raw smell of it goes away.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add some more water to thin down the gravy.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Taste and add more salt and chili powder if needed.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add the cubed onions (don&#8217;t chop the onions, instead make big cubes) to the gravy, combine well and cook for a minute. Onions shouldn&#8217;t be cooked thoroughly, it should stay crisp.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add dried fenugreek leaves, combine well.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Now, add the cooked chicken and paneer to the gravy, combine to the gravy and cook for a few minutes.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Finally, add the ground cashew nuts and cilantro, combine well.
