  • Water- 3 tbsp
  • Diced ripe mango- 1 mango
  • Dates, chopped- 2, optional
  • Jaggery, grated- ¼ cup
  • Grated coconut- ½ cup
  • Coconut milk, thick- 1 cup
Instructions
  1. This recipe will make 3 puttu. For making more double or triple the recipe accordingly.
  2. I've used the easy cook oats that cooks in a minute, Quaker brand.
  3. To a bowl, add oats, using your clean hand crush the oats.
  4. Don't grind the oats to powder, it will turn soggy while steam cooking & the texture won't be that great.
  5. Sprinkle 3 tbsp water over the crushed oats & mix with your hand & wet the oats. Break any lumps as you combine.
  6. Don't add a lot of water, oats will turn mushy.
  7. I've used the puttu maker that has to be kept over the pressure cooker whistle.
  8. Place the disc into the puttu maker.
  9. Spread 1 tbsp grated coconut.
  10. Top with 2 handfuls of wet oats.
  11. Add a handful of diced mangoes, a few chopped dates, 1 tbsp grated jaggery over the oats.
  12. Don't skip adding jaggery, gives a nice taste to this puttu.
  13. Again, top with 2 handfuls of the oats.
  14. Add 1 tbsp coconut over the oats & 1 tsp grated jaggery.
  15. Close with the lid.
  16. Place a pressure cooker over medium heat, add 1 cup water & close with the lid.
  17. When the steam release through the whistle hole.
  18. Place the puttu maker on the whistle hole, cook for 4 to 5 minutes until steam releases through all the holes on the puttu maker lid.
  19. Take it out of the whistle hole, it's very hot so be very careful.
  20. Open the lid & flip the oats puttu on a plate.
  21. Pour 2 to 3 tbsp thick coconut milk over the hot oats puttu, top with diced mango.
  22. Enjoy this mango oats puttu right away while it's hot, when it gets cold oats will turn firm.
  23. I had this for breakfast so served sunny side up egg with it.
  24. This can be served for breakfast or as an evening snack. Pretty filling, healthy & delicious.
