Green Chili- 1 or 2 (I used finger hot green chili)
Whole cardamom- 2
Whole cloves- 2
Whole cinnamon- 2 inch slice
While cooking
Coconut Oil or Vegetable Oil- 2 tbsp
Dried bay leaves- 2
Onion, sliced- 2
Salt- ¼ tsp
Curry leaves- 1 sprig (optional)
Tomatoes, sliced- 2
Coriander powder- 1 tsp
Salt- ¼ tsp
Mint leaves, chopped- 6 leaves
Cilantro, chopped- ¼ cup
Instructions
In a bowl, combine the beef stew cut pieces with all the above mentioned spices 'for marinating beef'. Keep aside for 10 minutes.
In a food processor, grind coarsely all the above mentioned ingredients 'for grinding'. Keep aside.
Turn on the Instant pot.
Click on Saute button, Normal Temperature.
Let the display show HOT.
Add oil to the stainless steel pot.
Add dried bay leaves.
Add onion and curry leaves, season with ¼ tsp salt. Saute for a minute.
Add ground mixture, saute till onions turn light golden- for 3 minutes.
Add chopped tomatoes, saute for a minute.
Add the marinated beef, combine well.
Add coriander powder, ¼ tsp more salt, mint leaves and cilantro. Combine well.
Don't have to add water.
If using Instant Pot Duo, turn the knob on the lid to SEALING.
Close the pot with the lid.
Cancel Saute mode.
Click on Manual- High Pressure. Set the time to 25 minutes.
minutes of pressure cooking, the beef will be soft & tender.
If you prefer firm beef, pressure cook for 20 minutes.
After the pressure cooking has completed, do a quick pressure release.
Open the lid and just inhale the amazing aroma from the curry.
There will be good amount of gravy, if you want to thicken the gravy you could cook for a few minutes in Saute mode.
Serve in a bowl and enjoy with Appam, Idiyappam, Pathiri, Chapati or just plain rice (click on the recipe link). Extremely delicious and finger licking beef curry.
Notes
You could replace Beef with Lamb.
